(04.11.2014) Tasmania, Day 4. Henty Dunes near Strahan.

Location:

04.11.2014

The Henty Dunes are a series of giant, 30 m high dunes about 14 km from Strahan on the Zeehan Road. You will reach a point where pine plantations are growing on both sides of the road. You can hire some toboggans from Strahan Holiday Park, but make sure that the sand is dry, so you can slide down easily.

We stumbled upon them driving from Strahan to Zeehan and decided to check them out.

We did not get to stay long, but what we saw was like being in a desert even though we were in the middle of a forest and a beach was just on the other side.

Previously we saw dunes at Mungo National Park, but these dunes near Strahan are much bigger!

A day in Mungo National Park

The dunes here are huge and the expanse makes you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere.

We stayed for one night 46km north of Strahan, in Zeehan, and then continued our trip to the north-west coast of Tasmania.

Travel well!
