Tasmania, Day 4. Gordon River Cruise with World Heritage Cruises company 28.11.2014

Many visitors are surprised that Strahan (pronounced “Strawn”) is a top resort and not a lonely fishing village on the shore of Macquarie Harbour. When the Franklin River campaign set up its headquarters here in 1982, it catapulted a town that was dying for want of a port into the big league of state resorts. By the early 1990s it was already a beacon of ecotourism that was receiving ninety thousand tourists a year.

Tasmania, Day 3. Queenstown, Nelson Falls, Lake Burbury 25.11.2014

Wish we could stay at Cradle Mountain area a bit longer, but snow had melted, all winter beauty had disappeared and it was time to go further.

Our next destination point was Strahan were we booked the Gordon River cruise for the next day. As we had heaps of time, we went a little bit further, to Queenstown and then to the Nelson Falls, and back to Strahan on the same day.

Tasmania, Day 2. Cradle Mountain - Lake St Clair National Park. ‘Christmas’ in November, Snow, Dove Lake Circuit 21.11.2014

After a Marakoopa cave tour it was time to go further, to Cradle Mountain National Park, where we booked a cabin for two days. We spent half an hour to figure out how to get from the Mole Creek area to Cradle Mountain and finally we've got the directions, thanks to GPS in one car and navigation application on a tablet in the other. The road itself wasn’t bad, I was more worried about weather. It became dark, then very dark and it started snowing.

Snow? In Australia? In spring? Yes, it is possible.

Tasmania, Day 1. Mole Creek Caves 19.11.2014

We arrived to Launceston at 9am, but before we hit the road we went to Woolworths, then to the Visitor Center, then kids became hungry… So it was almost 2.00-2.30pm when we finally packed everything and went to our first destination - the Mole Creek Karst National Park.

The Mole Creek area is renowned for its caves. Marakoopa and King Solomons Caves are but two caves in an area that contains over 300 known caves and sinkholes. Other typical karst features in this area include gorges and large underground streams and springs. Both caves are home to a range of fascinating animals which have evolved features which allow them to adapt to their lightless environments. It is said that the glow-worm display in Marakoopa Cave is the largest you'll see in any public access cave anywhere in Australia, so we decided to visit this one.

Maribyrnong River Trail 28.10.2014

We like cycling. We are not riding our bikes every Sunday from Frankston to city via Beach Rd, we simply enjoy family ride and love to discover what Melbourne's amazing network of bicycle trails has to offer.

We rode most of Maribyrnong River Trail on the weekend from Western Ring Road (Ginifer station) down to the city (Docklands, then Southern Cross station), and personally I can't wait to get stuck into the more northern stretches that reach as far as Brimbank. This utterly scenic and flat bike trail is 28 km long and has two paths that go along both sides of the Maribyrnong River, so you can take a different route there and back. It basically follows the string of parks and reserves that abut the river, taking in Victoria Uni, Flemington Racecourse, Horseshoe Bend Children's farm, Pipemakers Park, Canning Reserve, Burndap Park, Thompson Street Reserve, 16m Mazu statue, Newells Paddock Wetlands Parkand, all sorts of other public spaces you'd never or rare get to see from a car or public transport.

McClelland Sculpture Park and Gallery 10.10.2014

As the weather warms up, it’s nice to to get out of the city and explore somewhere new. Somewhere with plenty of space for the kids to run around, but also with something for the adults to enjoy too. The McClelland Gallery and Sculpture Park near Frankston is just the place.

Looking for sakura in the National Rhododendron Gardens, Olinda 07.10.2014

On account of the lovely weather this weekend, we decided to make the trip out to the small town of Olinda in the Dandenong Ranges to see the beauty of sakura in the National Rhododendron Garden. We've already been twice in this garden, but couldn't catch that magic moment when sakura is in bloom. One of our friends, who was there a week before us, mentioned that sakura has started blooming, so I though that the third time will be a magic time.

A day in Mungo National Park 03.10.2014

Mungo National Park is located 110 km north-east of Mildura in south-western New South Wales. The national park covers an ancient dry lakebed. This lakebed preserves the longest continual record of aboriginal life in Australia, dating from approximately 40,000 years ago to the present day.

We went to Mungo National Park on our way back home from Flinders Ranges and spent a very enjoyable day there. Highly recommend it to anyone keen for a bit of history and outback touring.
